Message to Parents - Nov. 15, 2013

Harry Baetjer, Acting Head of School
I want to express again our sincere thanks and appreciation to all of you who attended the parent community gatherings this week. Even in the midst of the questions and comments about the events and the school’s actions, it was very clear that every parent wants what is best for the students at Tower Hill, as well as a course of action to help us move forward in a positive direction. I also want to thank parents who were unable to attend for their messages and questions.

While more detailed information will follow soon, I wanted to reinforce the major themes that we heard during the three evenings:
  • Safety and security of our campus, especially the front entrance of the school
  • Details of the investigation, outside and inside the school
  • Hiring process and evaluation for the head of school, as well as background checks for employees
  • Training and resources for faculty and staff
  • Resources for parents to talk with their children (In the meantime, please check the information on the website – Resource Board > Updates from Tower Hill.)
  • Communication and community gatherings going forward
We want you to know that addressing the above will be our immediate priority, while additional questions and comments from the meetings have been noted for further consideration.

Once again, I want to assure you that the school remains an exciting place. If you were here any day, you would see our students and faculty engaged and forward-looking -- learning, discovering, interacting and collaborating. In fact, all three divisions have come together to support efforts to make this a happier Thanksgiving for others in Wilmington. We certainly thank all of you for your contributions and remind you that Wednesday, November 20 is the deadline for donations to the Hiller Harvest.

Lastly, I hope you can join us tonight as the fall sports season continues with our undefeated football team taking on Woodbridge High School in the first round of the state tournament on DeGroat Field at 7:30 p.m.

Sincerely,

Harry Baetjer
Acting Head of School
