Message to Parents - Nov. 26, 2013

Harry Baetjer, Acting Head of School
I wanted to update you on two topics before we leave on Thanksgiving break.

At the recent community gatherings our attorney, Tony Flynn, indicated that the next legal events in Dr. Wheeler’s case would be the presentation of his case to a grand jury and his indictment. We have learned that the grand jury will hear his case on December 9, and we expect his indictment to follow on the same day. We do not know of any new information that will be made public, but we do anticipate the story will appear in the media again. When we learn any new information, we will let you know.

One of the other major topics at the parent community gatherings was security, especially at the front entrance of the school. Rather than moving too precipitously and making a decision that might not be the best for the community in the long run, a decision has been made to hire a security consulting firm to conduct a comprehensive risk assessment. This cannot happen instantaneously; therefore, until the implementation of the recommendations, we will hire additional security personnel, as well as complete the previously planned upgrades to our security equipment. The security personnel will be on campus after the Thanksgiving break.

Sincerely,

Harry Baetjer
Acting Head of School
