Message to Parents, July 8, 2014

 

I hope that this communication finds you enjoying a much slower pace and that you have had or will soon have the opportunity to enjoy a vacation. The pace here has certainly slowed, but a number of projects are under way. I do want to update you regarding Dr. Wheeler and the Kroll investigation.

 

In my last message I informed you that a hearing on the motion to suppress evidence filed by Dr. Wheeler’s defense attorney was scheduled for May 23. The hearing went forward, and there was news coverage of the testimony and arguments. The judge did not rule on the motion, and the prosecution and the defense were given permission to submit additional briefs. These papers were filed on June 12, and a further hearing on the motion to suppress was tentatively scheduled for July 11. It is our understanding that there will be no further hearing, and that the motion is under advisement by the judge. There is no deadline for a ruling, which could be issued at any time. Undoubtedly there will be news coverage about the ruling when it is made. As always, we will report promptly to you any significant developments in the case. There is also one additional item that I needed to share with you.

 

Several months ago I informed you that Kroll Advisory Solutions had been retained to conduct an independent investigation of the hiring of Dr. Wheeler and his tenure at Tower Hill. This investigation is nearing completion. More than 80 individuals have been interviewed, extensive document searches and file reviews have been conducted, and the Kroll investigators have been in contact with law enforcement officials in Delaware and Illinois. However, they also wanted to be as certain as they possibly could that they made themselves available to everyone. Thus, if anyone in the Tower Hill community has information pertinent to the independent investigation, please contact any of the following individuals at Kroll:

You do need to understand that the Kroll investigation cannot be finally wrapped up until sometime after the state’s case against Dr. Wheeler has been resolved. Once this has occurred, we will inform you of the results of the investigation as soon as we receive Kroll’s final report and recommendations.
