Message to Parents, October 6, 2014

Many of you will have seen the article in today's News Journal about Dr. Wheeler's case; however, it is important to us to be certain the entire community is informed. So, I wanted to update you as to the current status of the case involving Dr. Wheeler. Dr. Wheeler's criminal trial is scheduled to begin tomorrow and conclude on Wednesday, Oct. 8. However, we have been advised that the trial may only take one day. We have also learned that the prosecution and the defense have agreed that this trial will not involve a jury. As a result, Judge Davis will hear the evidence and enter the verdict. Having presided over this matter for the last seven months, including his recent ruling denying Dr. Wheeler’s motion to suppress evidence, Judge Davis is very familiar with the case. Judge Davis may announce a verdict immediately at the end of the trial, or at a later date. We expect that there will be significant media coverage during these proceedings.
