Third Grade Becomes Pen Pals with Students in South Africa

This month, Mrs. Connor's third grade reading class will begin a pen pal correspondence project with children from Cape Town, South Africa. The opportunity to communicate with the South African students came about when Ms. Sophie Day, a relative of drama teacher Darla Max, visited Mrs. Connor's reading class to discuss her semester abroad in Cape Town.

The students were so interested in hearing about lives of children who live thousands of miles away on another continent, that they eagerly decided to begin exchanging letters to learn more.
Ms. Day and Mrs. Connor feel this will be a wonderful opportunity for children on both sides of the Atlantic to expand their understanding of global communities.
