Students Explore Ancient Ruins in Rome and Savor Local Food

During the first week of spring break 2013, seven adventurous Tower Hill Upper School students travelled to Rome with their Language Dept. chaperones, Harry Neilson and Ida Leader.
Having nearly perfect early spring weather, the intrepid group navigated through tortuous streets crowded with pilgrims, a very crowded bus and subway system (on strike), and even the Rome Marathon in order to experience all the Eternal City has to offer. Uncomplainingly walking nearly five miles each day, the group streamed into the Colosseum, bristled with fright at the Capuchin cemetery, and marvelled at the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.

One sun-drenched day was spent exploring the vast ruins of Ostia Antica, ancient Rome’s abandoned port city. Highlights of the trip included delicious food and visits to all of Rome’s famous piazze.

This trip will prove to be unforgettable!
