Moving Up Day 2013


The 59 students in the Eighth Grade, along with family and friends, celebrated the completion of Middle School during the Moving Up Day ceremony on June 7. View photos in the Media Gallery.
James Spruance gave the class message, and student council president, Ellie Watson, introduced the faculty members who presented the following awards (descriptions below):
  • Lisa Orienti Ehret Memorial Art Award: Lydia Brownell, Daisy Zimmerman               
  • Music Award: Lexi Longo            
  • Skilton Cup Award: James Spruance, Jane Mitchell            
  • Tower Hill Humanitarian Award: Ann Guzetta
  • Alumni Association Achievement Award: Hannah Sheehan, Greg Gardner
  • Cecile M. Buckles Award: John Churchwell, Julia Ward            
Trina Tjersland, chair of the drama department, was presented with the class gift to recognize her 26 years of service to the school. The class advisors recognized their advisees, sharing highlights of experiences at Tower Hill. Four faculty members, who will be departing from the school, were recognized.

Moving Up Day Award Descriptions

Lisa Orienti Ehret Memorial Art Award - is awarded annually to a member or members of the eighth grade at Tower Hill who, on the recommendation of the members of the faculty of the Visual Arts Department of Tower Hill, has done outstanding work in art.
 
Music Award - is given to the eighth grade student who in the opinion of the music department best meets the following criteria: Service to Tower Hill musical groups (number of groups performing with and the number of years of service); Musicianship (individual musical talent and ability to contribute to the musical groups); Participation and accomplishments in musical activities outside of Tower Hill (All State groups, competitions, etc.); Overall mark in general music class (scores on quizzes, tests, papers and effort).
 
The Skilton Cup – The green and white teams compete annually on Field Day for the Skilton Cup which is won by the side scoring the greater number of points. The trophy is named for Tower Hill’s first Headmaster, John Davis Skilton.
 
Humanitarian Award - is awarded to the eighth grade student who in the opinion of his or her classmates has been the best friend to all.
 
The Alumni Association Achievement Award - is presented annually to that eighth grade student who, in the opinion of the Middle School faculty, has demonstrated particular growth in citizenship and scholarship.
 
Cecile M. Buckles Award - is presented each June to the Middle School student who, in the opinion of the Middle School faculty, best exemplifies her enthusiasm, effort, cooperation and energetic involvement.
