History Dept. Chair Dr. Ellis Wasson Announces Retirement

For just over two decades, Tower Hill have had the privilege of having a faculty member who is an internationally known expert in his field, a published author and a national leader in the Advanced Placement program. He has actively chosen to teach high school students and has done so with enthusiasm. Dr. Ellis Wasson is known by students and graduates as a man who "knows everything," but what the graduates will discuss even more passionately is what a great teacher he was and how much he influenced them. But it is not only students who have been influenced for the good.

Ellis' influence has impacted the whole school. From encouraging students to take part in the English Speaking Union's National Shakespeare Contest to his deft handling of the Forum speaker series, his efforts have benefited many. He has also served on committees from the Student-Faculty Council to the Faculty Development Committee and his contributions as a Department Chair have helped guide the school. Beyond this, his wise counsel has been sought by students, parents, headmasters, alumni and colleagues.

There will be a significant gap to fill when Ellis leaves at the end of this year, but I know you will join me in celebrating his extraordinary contributions and in wishing him the very best in his retirement.
