World-Renowned Conductor to Lead Independent Schools Choral Workshop and Concert on Jan. 9

World-renowned conductor and early music specialist Andrew Megill will be conducting the upper school choirs of Tower Hill, Wilmington Friends and Sanford School in the first all-day Independent Schools Choral Workshop on Friday, Jan. 9.

During the event at Tower Hill, students will sing under Dr. Megill’s direction and gain insight into one of the major choral works of the classical repertory, Vivaldi’s Gloria.

“This is an exciting and rare opportunity for the students participating in the Choral Workshop to be able to learn and sing with one of the preeminent conductors of our time,” says Tower Hill choir teacher Zerrin Martin.

Following the workshop, the choirs will present a concert of individual selections and the Vivaldi Gloria conducted by Dr. Megill. The concert will be held at Tower Hill in the Pierre S. du Pont Theatre on Friday, Jan. 9 at 7 p.m.

Dr. Megill is considered one of the leading choral conductors of his generation, known for his passionate artistry and unusually wide-ranging repertoire spanning early music to newly composed works. He currently leads three of North America’s finest professional vocal ensembles: the Montreal Symphony Orchestra Chorus, the Carmel Bach Festival Chorale and Fuma Sacra.

Dr. Megill frequently collaborates with the world’s leading orchestras, preparing choirs for performances with the American Composers’ Orchestra, American Symphony, the Cleveland Orchestra, Dresden Philharmonie, Montreal Symphony Orchestra, National Symphony, New Jersey Symphony and New York Philharmonic and conductors Pierre Boulez, Charles Dutoit, Joseph Flummerfelt, Rafael Frühbeck du Burgos, Alan Gilbert, Jane Glover, Neeme Järvi, Zdenek Macal, Kurt Masur, Kent Nagano and Julius Rudel. Last month he made his debut conducting the Montreal Symphony Orchestra.
