Hillers Compete in Delaware High School Mock Trial

On Feb. 27-28, Tower Hill competed in the Delaware High School Mock Trial Competition. In this competition, students play attorneys and witnesses on two sides (plaintiff and defense) and compete against other teams in putting on a trial with real rules and proceedings at the New Castle County Courthouse before real judges and lawyers.

The plaintiff side attorneys were Paritosh Raval, Nicholas Fort and Matthew Santos, with David Goodman, Hita Kambhametu and Hudson Pepper as witnesses; the defense attorneys were Sam Barrett, Kevin Turner and Derek Dubner, with Kaitlyn Scott, Michael Malik and Neel Vidwans as witnesses.

Since October, we have been practicing with the help of our coaches, Mr. John Malik and Mr. Chip Sheridan, working around sports practices, homework and other extracurricular activities. In the competition, Tower Hill’s team put on one of our best performances in recent memory, impressively holding our own against other top teams.

In each round, gavels are awarded for the best attorney and best witness, and five gavels were awarded to the team this year out of a possible eight. Nicholas Fort and Paritosh Raval both won Best Attorney gavels, and Michael Malik won a Best Witness gavel. David Goodman put on an impressive showing, winning two Best Witness gavels. Overall, it was a very successful performance for Tower Hill this year, and we look forward to competing against next year.
