Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service – Jan. 18

The Tower Hill School Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Service Event will take place on Monday, Jan. 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. The day is optional for students, faculty and staff, however we would like as many people to participate as possible.

Our goal is to keep the event simple while supporting as many organizations as possible. The event schedule includes baking activities, exercising our gratitude muscles, coloring/decorating activities and collections for various local organizations:

Coloring/Writing Activities
9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
- Coloring place mats for the Emmanuel Dining Room
- Decorating paper lunch bags for the Sunday Breakfast Mission sandwiches
- Gratitude exercising: Writing thank you notes (we will provide notes and postage)

Bread Baking for Emmanuel Dining Room (1st Grade and older)
Two shifts: 8:30-9 a.m. and 9:30-10 a.m.
Ten baking stations will be available at each shift in the dining room and will accommodate three students per station on a first-come, first served basis. Please be prompt! Students will be guided through the dough-making process.

Baking Dog Treats for the Humane Association of Delaware
9-10 a.m.
Tower Hill’s baking club will be supervising this activity. We will be using Izzy’s Apple Cheddar Dog Biscuit recipe. Five stations in the dining room will be available for making, rolling and cutting dough.

Sandwich Making for the Sunday Breakfast Mission
10-11 a.m.
Our goal is to make 500 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the Sunday Breakfast Mission. A group of young people from the Fraim Boys and Girls club will be visiting and collaborating with us for this activity, which will take place in the Weaver Gym. Not recommended for students with nut allergies.

March to Parkview
10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
In service of our seniors, we will spend some time at Parkview Nursing Home playing cards, board games and casino games. Time is often the greatest service that can be given. All parents, staff and students who want to participate should meet in the Tower Hill dining area at 10 a.m. to depart for Parkview Nursing Home. Activities at Parkview will go from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Sponsored by PAATH.

Collections
9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
The 1919 Auditorium will be the site of the collections. There will be donation stations for Terry Center/CHILD, Inc., VA Hospital, Humane Association of Delaware and West End Neighborhood House. Click here for the list of needed donations.
