Class of 2019 Celebrates at Moving Up Day 2015


Tower Hill recognized the eighth-grade class at the annual Moving Up Day ceremony on Friday, June 5. Family, friends, faculty and fellow students gathered to hear advisers share insights about each student’s accomplishments and contributions to the class.  
 
Heidi Chu received the Tower Hill Humanitarian Award, given to the eighth-grader who, in the opinion of her or his classmates, has been the best friend to all.

Meredith Pettinaro received the Alumni Association Achievement Award for demonstrating particular growth in citizenship and scholarship.
 
Jacob Spruance received the Cecile M. Buckles Award, given to the Middle School student who best exemplifies enthusiasm, effort, cooperation and energetic involvement.
 
In addition to the three awards presented, Head of Middle School Paul Capodanno noted the many talents of the 8th Grade as a class:
 
  • 12 members participated in the Math League, the two teams of which placed first and second in the region
  • 5 students placed in the All-State Chorus, 2 in All-State Band and 1 in All-State Orchestra
  • 4 students had artwork displayed in the Delaware Association of Independent Schools’ Art Show
  • Winning seasons for boys’ soccer (9-2 and 9-3), field hockey (8-1), boys’ basketball (7-2), girls’ basketball (8-2 and 10-0) and girls’ soccer (8-2)
  • Eighth-graders competed at the high school Varsity level in volleyball, cross country, track, wrestling, swimming, lacrosse and tennis
  • The 8th Grade Student Council organized and ran the talent show, Middle School Fair, Halloween Party and Gift of Service Week
