Squash Arrives at Tower Hill

Tower Hill has secured limited court time at the Reflex Squash & Fitness facility in south Wilmington to field an Upper School co-ed squash team this winter. This is not intended to be an introductory sport, but rather a high school team for the experienced player. There will be tryouts beginning on Monday, Nov. 16 through Friday, Nov. 20, after which time a team of the 12 best players will be selected by the coaches. Ed Chilton and Ray Chan-a-Su, both highly skilled local pros, will be our coaches.

Eighth-graders will be allowed to tryout for this team. At the present time approximately 20 students with anywhere from 2-7 years experience playing squash have signed up to try out.

A bus will leave Tower Hill each day at 2:40 p.m. to take the students to the Reflex facility on South Walnut Street in Wilmington. The team will practice from 3-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and return to Tower Hill by bus by approximately 5 p.m. We are still in the process of putting together a competitive schedule, which will be posted on Hillerssports.com in coming weeks.

Our normal philosophy regarding athletics is participation for all our students, however, as with golf, we do not control the venue and space is extremely limited. Therefore squash will have a limited number of participants. We are hopeful that things will open up in the future and that we will one day be able to offer an expanded experience. Questions should be directed to Director of Athletics Jack Holloway.
