Seventh-Grader Wins School-Level Competition of the National Geographic Bee
On Wednesday, Jan. 6, seventh-grader Chip Elson won Tower Hill's school-level competition of the National Geographic Bee. All across America, approximately 4 million students from 11,000 schools competed for the right to be on stage, just as all of our Middle School history students did prior to the holiday break.
Chip will move on to the statewide level with an online test that is scored against all other school winners in Delaware. The student with the highest score in Delaware will then go on to Washington, D.C. to compete for the grand prize — a $50,000 scholarship, a lifetime subscription to National Geographic, a trip to the Galapagos and $500 in cash.
Grade Contestants were:
Grade 5: Lillian Gessner, Caitlin Smith, William Miller (grade winner)
Grade 6: Johnny Gray, Ella Shepherd, Lucy Nace (grade winner)
Grade 7: Johnny Blazakis, Hollis du Pont, Catherine Timon, Chip Elson (school winner)
