Upper Schoolers Compete in Delaware Mock Trial Competition

"May it please the court."

On Feb. 26 and 27, the Tower Hill Mock Trial team participated in the annual Delaware Mock Trial Competition, held at the New Castle County Courthouse in Wilmington. In the competition, participants faced other schools in a real courtroom environment, putting their knowledge of the mock case (a first degree murder) and the Delaware rules of evidence to test.

The team, which practiced twice a week after school and on Sundays, put forth an outstanding display, defeating the 11-time reigning champion Wilmington Charter and ultimately placing 5th. The team, which had been preparing since November, had success as both prosecution and defense at the contest, winning six out of a possible eight “gavels” given to the best attorney and best witness in each round. Nic Fort, Samuel Barrett and Paritosh Raval each won a gavel for their impressive work as attorneys, while Kaitlyn Scott and David Goodman (2) were recognized for their witness roles. Coached by John Malik, Chip Sheridan, Joelle Polesky and Arturo Bagley, they delivered the best finish in Tower Hill history.
