TutuDesk

Mark Cordell, a member of the junior class, is leading a two-year service initiative to raise money for the TutuDesk Foundation. The TutuDesk Foundation is a South African organization that supports global literacy through the distribution of portable lapdesks to 95 million children in under-resourced areas in sub-Saharan Africa whose education prospects are negatively affected by not having classroom desks. The TutuDesk Foundation is a non-profit education initiative that was founded by the partnership efforts of the Archbishop Desmond Tutu Foundation and the United Nations Special Envoy for Education. Since its founding in 2002, the foundation has provided 1.5 million desks in 3,000 schools. Their goal is to provide 20 million desks to 20 million children by 2020.  Mark and a group of Upper School students are looking forward to hosting fundraisers over the next two years with a THS goal of raising enough money to donate one desk for every Upper School student. Any outside donations would be gratefully accepted!
