Simi Olurin '19 — Jefferson Awards Student in Action

This month's Jefferson Award winner has been involved in many organizations. She has given her time to the Jack and Jill organization since the 4th Grade. Jack and Jill of America is an African American organization formed during the Great Depression. It was formed in 1938 by African American mothers with the idea of bringing together children in a social and cultural environment. She has helped with various collections of shoes, toiletries and food for several causes. As a Food Bank of Delaware volunteer, she organized food drives for underprivileged children who need food to sustain them over the weekends. Her work with Bancroft Elementary School during the holiday included donating a wrapping educational items for students. As part of the Christiana Care Health System, she participated 53 hours in the volunteer summer program in guest and nutrition services and as a wheelchair specialist.

Most notably, she was awarded The Presidential Volunteer Service Award Bronze level for over 100 hours of service. Congratulations, Simi!
