Destiney Skinner '19 Achieves Girl Scout Gold Award

Congratulations to Destiney Skinner '19 on achieving the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award a Girl Scout can earn. Earning the Gold Award shows colleges, employers and your community that you’re out there changing the world. Achieving the Girl Scout Gold Award takes dedication, organization and determination. The award involves multiple phases, including identifying a dilemma, creating a plan and taking action to inspire.

Skinner’s project, “Say Yes to the Prom Dress,” targeted foster care and/or low-income girls. The primary goal was to get involved with the community to help make a difference. The project helped to improve the local issue of girls not being able to attend prom because of financial challenges.

This venture provided an opportunity for girls to have a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Months of outreach and networking yielded a collection of over 500 fancy dresses and gowns. The culminating event was a huge success. Skinner also received medals for the commitment of 13 years to scouting and being a graduating senior.
