Tower Hill Returns to Finals
Jeans Day at Tower Hill was marked with a certain intensity as girls' hockey focused on facing rival Friends in the wake of two regular season defeats to the Quakers. But the post-seasoned Hillers dominated play and tamed Friends, 2-1.

NEWARK – Tower Hill emerged victorious from a flurry of goals in the second half, winning 2-1 against Friends in tonight’s second semifinal of the Delaware High School Field Hockey Tournament at the University of Delaware’s Rullo Stadium.
Lauren Ianni’s goal for Tower Hill, the third by the two teams in a span of 1:48, won it for the Hillers.
Mary Hobbs put Tower Hill ahead 1-0 with 14:16 left, with Friends swiftly tying it off its first penalty corner when Elissa Cashman scored with a reverse stick shot at 13:20.
The game was not tied for long, as Ianni scored at 12:28.
In Saturday night’s final, No. 3 seed Tower Hill (16-2-1) will play No. 5 William Penn (18-1) at Rullo Stadium at 7:30.
No. 2 Friends (16-2-1) had won six straight and had gone 15-0-1 in its prior 16 games.
Tower Hill controlled the first half, when it earned seven penalty corners to Friends’ none, but the Hillers could not turn any of those corners into goals.
Two minutes into the second half, Tower Hill earned another corner, which Caroline Campbell sent in to midfielder Caitlin Van Sickle. She blasted a shot, kicked away by Friends goalkeeper Katie McEnroe, but McEnroe was several yards in front of the goal when she made the stop.
The Hillers continued to pressure, and Friends defender Lauren Galinat positioned herself behind McEnroe and saved two Tower Hill shots in quick succession. Galinat is one of the post players when the Quakers defend corners.
Friends won the Independent Conference title this year. The Quakers swept their two games with Tower Hill, winning 2-1 in overtime on Oct. 5 and 1-0 on Nov. 2.
