Melissa Martinenza Newell (THS '99) Forensic DNA Analyst Visits Science Class

Melissa Newell visited her alma mater to teach a forensics lesson to seniors in the DNA & Biomolecules course. Mrs. Newell, who works for the State of Delaware in the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME), taught the class many techniques and applications that the lab uses to solve crimes. Of special interest to the class was Mrs. Newell's account of solving the murder of Dorothy Donovan, a 15 year-old "cold case."

Mrs Newell also prepared the class for their upcoming visit to the OCME, where they will hear speakers, like the Medical Examiner, and tour labs involved with investigations of arson, murder, and drugs/toxicology.
