Columbia Athletes, Freibott '12 and Blake '11, Earn Academic Praise

Columbia University freshman field hockey player Christina Freibott '12 was one of 15 players on its team represented on the 2012 Gladiator by SGI/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I National Academic Squad.

Freibott, a former standout at Tower Hill School, was honored since she had a GPA of 3.30 or higher. This year’s total marked the highest for the program in its 17-year existence. Freibott started all 17 games in her first year and scored her first collegiate goal in a 3-2 victory over Penn on Oct. 12. She finished the season with five assists and seven total points.

At Tower Hill, Freibott won the state title as a freshman, was the state runner-up as a sophomore and junior and added a state quarterfinal berth as a senior. As a senior in 2011, she had 13 goals and 26 assists.

Freibott played at Tower Hill alongside current Columbia teammate Zoe Blake '11.
Blake, a sophomore midfielder, also was named to the NFHCA Division I Collegiate National Academic Squad. She started 13 games as a sophomore and recorded an assist against Bucknell. Blake helped Tower Hill to back-to-back Delaware state championships in 2007 and 2008.
