Recent Successes

Dear Tower Hill Families,

By the time you read this, some of us will have joined a group of seniors in our stunning observatory at 4:30 a.m. to view Jupiter, followed by a pancake breakfast!

Last night Tower Hill hosted a screening of the film Most Likely to Succeed, which was open to the four schools and our parents. Today we will be debriefing with our faculty at our afternoon Faculty Professional Day. The documentary raises provocative questions about traditional education and features High Tech High in San Diego, which has received international notoriety for its student-centered and project-based approach to education.

As we go into the long holiday weekend, here are but a few highlights of Tower Hill's commitment to student-centered opportunities and successes:
  • Admissions applications are up 13%.
  • Students have opportunities to hear from prominent outside speakers such as CDC epidemiologist Dr. Iman Martin and former Navy Seal Kevin Lacz.
  • From the kindergarten space unit to seniors viewing Jupiter and its moons this morning, students use our observatory in creative ways.
  • Our 2nd Grade Presidential Wax Museum provided students the chance to truly live and speak as a particular President or First Lady. Ronald Reagan giving out jelly beans and Jacqueline Kennedy in her pink pill box hat were but two of the colorful and animated Presidential dignitaries we had on campus yesterday!
  • Yesterday we hosted Head of School Michelle Carroll from St. Catherine's School in Melbourne, Australia, where we will be engaged in a student exchange.
  • Recent outside student recognition includes Presidential Scholar candidates, leadership awards and all-state musicians (see below).
  • Seniors have already been accepted to some terrific colleges including: University of Michigan (3), Swarthmore College, Amherst College, the University of Delaware Honors program, Yale University, Stanford, University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, University of Virginia, Wake Forest University, Gettysburg College, Tulane University (4) and Emory University, to name a few.
  • Our athletes have been breaking school records this winter season, and our squash team has had a great start with victories over some prominent teams such as Episcopal Academy's JV Team.
Have a wonderful weekend, and Happy Valentine's Day!

Sincerely,

Elizabeth C. Speers
Head of School
