Amy Cuddy, Ph.D.

What is your role at Tower Hill, and how long have you been with the school?
I have had the pleasure of serving the students, families and faculty of Tower Hill as the school's psychologist for 18 years, and I have taken on a new role this year as our first director of wellness.

Briefly describe your own education.
I earned my bachelor's degree in psychology from Franklin & Marshall College (go Dips!) and my doctorate in Clinical Developmental Child Psychology from Bryn Mawr College (go Owls!). My clinical internship was spent at The Child Guidance Center of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and my thesis examined the impact of single-sex vs. coeducational learning environments on the development of self-esteem in girls. At present, my interests have shifted to explore the role of neuropsychology and mindfulness on student growth and emotional management. I am currently engaged in a training program to become a certified instructor in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction for Teens.

Why do you do what you do? What are you passionate about at work?
I have been honored to be a part of the Tower Hill family long enough to have seen several classes of students make their entire way through our school. My passion comes from developing these long-term relationships with our students and their families, as we work collaboratively to grow solid citizens of the world.

What do you enjoy doing outside of school?
My time outside of school is spent laughing, cooking, eating and gathering with family and friends. I love words and could spend days-on-end reading. I enjoy traveling to new places to learn more about an area and to meet new people, and, whenever time permits, I journey to my favorite city in the world — Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania! (Go Steelers!)
