DRC Congolese Refugee Visits Tower Hill

On Friday, Feb. 17, Tower Hill hosted 18-year-old Samuel Cyubahiro, a refugee from the Democratic Republic of Congo who arrived in the United States in November. Samuel visited a number of Middle School and Upper School language and history classes, telling his story of resilience and courage and sharing his views on social justice, moving to America and learning English. Samuel also enjoyed a lunchtime conversation with several THS Global Scholars, hearing about their global service work and sharing his own plans for giving back in the future. A high point of the afternoon was an impromptu game of soccer with members of the varsity soccer team.

To learn more about Samuel and his family’s path from the Congo to Radnor, Pennsylvania, please see this Feb. 6 article in the Philadelphia Inquirer.  If you have any questions or would like to help Samuel’s family, please contact Caroline Clifford (cclifford@towerhill.org), Language Department Chair, who tutors family members in ESL.
