ChessNuts Win 1st Place at Nationals

Second- and third-graders in the ChessNuts program took 1st place in the United States Chess Federation National Elementary Championship in the K-3 unrated division! The team and their individuals places were Tad Coleman (3rd), Ahana Mitra (5th), Braden Hehir (8th), Finn Hehir (9th), Michael Waesco (10th) and Linc Coleman (20th)Coale Crouch placed 6th in the K-8 U750 section, where Danny Fink, Nate Spears and Stokes Mellon also competed. Richie Angiullo competed in the highly competitive K-12 U800 section. 
 
Team members traveled to Nashville, Tennessee, to compete with schools from around the country. ChessNuts is an After School enrichment program led by Coach Greg Rogers, founder of Chess Masters of Delaware. For several months, participants have been practicing twice a week at Tower Hill and sometimes on Saturday. "To hear them say Tower Hill, Wilmington, Delaware, in front of the whole country — I couldn't be happier," Rogers said.
