Seymour the Whale Swims Into the Lower School Library

What does a 12-foot blue whale have to do with 21st century skills such as critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and problem-solving? Plenty!

This year in the Lower School Library, our students will be exploring learning opportunities through maker education: hands-on learning experiences that seek to solve real-world problems, all while providing authentic practice with 21st century skills. Maker education invites our students to pursue their innate curiosity in an innovative way, introducing them to the idea of risk-taking and teaching perseverance in the process.

Conceived and created in true maker fashion by a team from the Anthropologie retail chain, “Seymour” was generously donated to Tower Hill to provide our Lower School students with a tangible example of learning through making. If the first few days of school are any indication, our youngest learners are clearly delighted by the newest member of our community. We invite you to visit the Lower School Library to meet Seymour in person!
