Girls' Swim Team Defeats Number 1 Ranked Newark Charter School

On Tuesday evening, the boys' and girls' swim team defeated Newark Charter School. From the first event, the boys showed a solid domination, winning all but the 100 freestyle. The final score was Tower Hill 60-110.

This was a big meet for the girls with the News Journal ranking Newark Charter number 1 in the state and Tower Hill number 2 at the beginning of the season. From the first event it was clear that both Sharon Reynolds from Tower Hill and Kurtis Wittman from Newark Charter had put a lot of thought into their lineups for the meet. There was never more than a four-point difference in the score, with the lead constantly changing. By the final event, the 400 free relay, the Hillers were two points behind with the final relay having Tower Hill either win, tie or lose. A solid first place finish in the relay by the team of Sydney DeBaecke '22Kayley Knackstedt '22Brooke Griffin '23 and Lainey Mullins '23 sealed the tie, and the win was secured with a third place finish by the team of Julianna Malick '23, Lauren Gilbert '22Lindsay Kalish '22 and Grace Gilbert '24. This truly was a full team effort with every swimmer in the pool contributing to the team's success. This was the first loss by the Newark Charter girls' team since being defeated by Wilmington Charter School in December 2017.

The state swim meet at the end of February will be very exciting for both schools.
