NPR White House Correspondent Tamara Keith Speaks at Virtual Forum

2020: “It’s like we have a sharknado of news,” according to NPR White House correspondent Tamara Keith, who gave an overview of the 2020 election on Thursday, Oct. 1, as part of Tower HIll’s Forum Speaker Series

“In a normal year, a Supreme Court confirmation will consume all of the oxygen in the political world for months, but this year that incredibly big news story was just one more thing,” Keith said during her presentation, which was held virtually. “We have a presidential campaign that is at historic levels of divisiveness, we have a Supreme Court confirmation, and we’re in the middle of a pandemic and a recession — that’s a lot going on at once.”

Keith is the co-host of the NPR Politics Podcast, the most listened-to podcast during the 2016 presidential campaign. She is also a member of the “Politics Monday” team on PBS NewsHour, providing regular analysis and commentary on President Trump, Congress and the inner-workings of Washington politics. Her presentation was followed by a Q&A session, with students asking questions about the recent debate, the vote-by-mail process, polling insights and more.

The theme of this year's Forum is The Voice of the People: The Power of Citizenship and Voting. The Forum was established in 1998 by the Rappolt family in honor of their children Gabrielle ’93, Sarah ’96 and Bill ’99, and in recognition of the dedication, scholarship and professionalism of the Tower Hill faculty.
