Julie McCausland ’87 Earns Parker J. Palmer Courage to Teach Award

Julie McCausland, M.D., M.S., F.A.C.E.P., ’87 is a 2021 awardee of the Parker J. Palmer Courage to Teach Award by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). The award is for program directors “who find innovative ways to teach residents and to provide quality health care while remaining connected to the initial impulse to care for others in this environment.”

McCausland is an associate professor of both emergency medicine and medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and an attending physician at UPMC Presbyterian-Shadyside Hospital, a Level 1 trauma and stroke center located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She directs the UPMC Medical Education (UPMC ME) Transitional Year Residency Program and serves as the Co-Chair of the Professional Development subcommittee of the UPMC ME Graduate Medical Education Committee, the fourth largest GME Institution in the nation.
