Tower Hill’s annual Homecoming and Reunion Weekend welcomed alumni, families and students to campus for two days of celebration.

A crisp fall weekend made for the perfect backdrop to Tower Hill School’s Homecoming and Reunion Weekend.

Across Friday and Saturday, Oct. 24-25, alumni, students and their families came together for a myriad of activities including sports competitions, campus tours, a picnic lunch, alumni awards, reunion gatherings and more on Tower Hill’s campus. The festivities allowed for students of present and past to celebrate as one.

Friday’s evening events kicked off the weekend with junior varsity and varsity girls volleyball games in the Weaver Gym, where both teams beat Friends, and Parker Lewicki ’27 scored her 1,000th assist.

Saturday started in the morning with junior varsity boys soccer followed by varsity field hockey, varsity boys soccer, junior varsity field hockey and varsity football across the school’s athletic fields. The highlight of the athletic competitions was varsity field hockey defeated previously undefeated Friends, 3-2 in overtime.

The afternoon also saw the presentation of the Distinguished Alumni Award to Genelle Trader ’70. The award recognizes an alum who exemplifies the qualities of a Tower Hill graduate and has distinguished themselves among their peers, and has been involved with the school.

As a management consultant and senior corporate executive, Trader is a leader in her field. She was the first African-American student to attend Tower Hill, and she is one of two to graduate with her class. Her civic work also includes serving on the Board of Trustees of the National Park Foundation’s African American Experience Fund, as a member of the Board of Directors at The History Makers, as the strategic planning co-chair of The Links, Incorporated, and previously serving on the Board of Directors of the Serviam Girls Academy. She also serves on Tower Hill’s Board of Trustees.

During halftime of the football game, John “Jack” M. Flynn, MD ’81 received the Founders’ Achievement Award. This award recognizes members of the school community for exemplary service and lasting contributions to the school.

Dr. Flynn serves as Chief of the Division of Orthopedics at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), where he is internationally respected for his expertise in pediatric spine and hip care. He entered Tower Hill in 1975 as a seventh grader and saw success on DeGroat Field and in the classroom. As a recipient of financial aid while attending Tower Hill, Dr. Flynn established the Flynn Family Scholarship Fund in 2014, which honors his parents, Frances and Jimmy Flynn, and provides opportunities to the next generation of Hillers. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees at Tower Hill.

In the evening, the Alumni Reception held on the Hayward House lawn, Reunion Dinner in Kullman Commons and various reunion gatherings allowed Tower Hill graduates to come together and celebrate the connections they built during their years together in the schoolhouse.

The weekend was a remarkable moment of community, showcasing just how strong the bonds built at Tower Hill are.
